Research and Development (R&D CAT) Subgroup of the Climate Action Team
Climate-related research into the impacts of climate change on California is important to help decision makers formulate coherent policies. The Research Subgroup of the Climate Action Team (CAT) has been formed to make recommendations on the future of climate research in California. The subgroup is chaired by Jim Boyd, Commissioner and Vice Chair of the California Energy Commission, with membership from other interested State departments. Members include:

The primary goals of the Research Subgroup are improving coordination among state departments, identifying research gaps, opportunities for collaboration and providing a forum for discussing future state climate change research priorities.
The first product from the Subgroup is a ten to fifteen page executive-level chapter in the CAT report to the Governor. This chapter will describe on-going climate change research and important research needs in the general topics of climate modeling/monitoring, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, and climate change impacts/adaptation. The chapter will provide an inclusive status report of climate change research sponsored by State departments and discuss major challenges that must be addressed relative to climate change program implementation and future
